TWO WEEKS?!

Wow, when did that happen? I mean last week I was limping about feeling like my body had been through hell and back. This week, meh, I feel ten thousand times better! All regions are feeling better, thankyouverymuch (TMI... with birth is there really such a thing???)

My dogs are driving me batty. Every time someone visits I have to apologize for their rude behavior. And the barking out the back door at virtually NOTHING only to wake the wee sleeping baby. GAH, I know it was the same with M and I was TOTALLY ready to send both of them packing then too. I cannot decide which of these two hounds is worse and yet I still love them deeply. ** TOTAL lie Santana is worse because he is one pissed off pup and peed on M's new tool bench. Thankfully I noticed this and cleaned it up before M noticed... SIGH.

Any who, Miss Pancake had her two week appointment today. She was her usual self. She took it all in stride. Even when K tried to put her little sun dress on upside down. Heh. The stats:
She was 20-1/2 inches when born
Today she is 21-1/2 inches (75-90%)

She weighed 8 lbs 11 oz at birth (and she dropped to 8 lbs 4 oz when we took her to the doctor three days later.)
Today she weighed in at 9 lbs 12 oz (75-90%)

This momma could once again be a wet nurse and feed several babies at any given time of the day. Poor girl almost had a squirt of milk to her eye this morning, it missed and hit her in her hair... I told her milk makes ones hair silky and soft. She did not seem to appreciate my levity. Oy.

Her cord fell off three days ago and she definitely has been having more waking time. She has also developed a habit of being up from 4am to 6am JUST LIKE M. This has been waking M up at the ungodly hour of 5:30a the past few days. It is like colic in the morning. Weird. Oh well.

I knew this would be the case and it is true - it is like Miss Pancake has always been in our house, a part of our lives. There are definitely moments especially with M but the past two weeks have been relatively positive. I definitely have my fears in the coming weeks that I will need to overcome, to be strong about and deal with. I am sure I will write more on this - for the moment I am not quite ready to think about it. I am also trying to mentally prepared for some too long extended visit with in laws during the month of September. WAIL... (seriously they are helping me out so I cannot be TOO negative about the length of their visit but still... come on in laws in my house for three weeks??? Feel for me, just a little bit, please!?)

Soon To Be 37 Weeks

The check in appointment this week was standard operating stuff. My BP was normal, the baby's heart is swoosh-beating away and I guess I was measuring fine since no one said anything about this. I had the Beta Strep swab. I am trying to stay positive and think negative (on the test that is!)

I was supposed to see the 3rd doc in the practice but he had the day off (why schedule the appointment with him on this day??) Not that I care, I get to go back to Liz from here on out thank goodness. She is so much more communicative and it is just easier to ask her questions then the docs. Weekly visits from here on out. Without further ado, here is the 36 week photo:

(I look as tired as I felt... a big four hours of sleep last evening. Combine that with the night before and I working on 9 hours in a 48 hour period. Sweeeet.)

Bonus cute Matthew photo (well he is cute in my opinion of course ;)

Happy 4th of July to all!!!

Girlie Girl

I have to say that recently as my nesting instincts have kicked into high gear I have been channeling my inner girlie girl and loving it! I love the pinks, oranges and yellows. Not that Matthew cannot wear or have these colors but contextually it is different. I am excited for hair ribbons, bows and dolls. To make little pony tails and buy a little kerchief and head bands! I cannot believe that soon I will have a little girl. SOON. I am excited and amazed. And nervous. Kevin is nervous too. I know it will be okay, we will figure out the wiping thing which for some reason terrifies us both!

As it was with Matthew, I am looking forward to meeting this little person growing inside of me who flitters & flutters about, drags her foot (feet?) across my abdomen with more and more frequent regularity throughout the night hours, and has taken to having the hiccups some times 4-5 times a day!

I remember looking down at Matthew in the wee hours of the night while nursing and seeing the boy he would become. I never had words to describe that night, I likely still do not - more then anything it was probably a combo of intense love and desperate sleep deprivation! I just remember seeing how he would change from baby to boy soon as he laid there before me across my boppy sleeping. And this was just a few weeks into his life with us!

I remember longing for the moment when I would hear his little voice and how it amazes me to this day to hear him rattle on about random things.

I love how her room is turning out - the retro Partridge family birds, the color of the room, putting up some of pictures I had in my room as a girl.

I am excited that we have her name picked out.

I am enjoying Matthew's increased understanding and awareness of Baby Pancake - giving kisses and hugs and asking about what she will be like when she gets here.

I enjoy the dreams of her that I remember here and there. Where I firmly believe I am meeting her in a way. To help prepare me for her entry into our lives in the very near future!

I stand in her pretty green & pink room looking at the little pink socks and ruffly pink outfits and hope to gawd that the tech was right... that she is indeed a girl...

Who Stole the Hour from the Weekend?

What time is right now anyway??? My gawd. And why don't they grant a national holiday to do this time change crap so we can spend a day lying about re-adjusting to the time change? I mean for real. Don't they know I am pregnant and struggle with sleeping as it is? And that my son will still see 6:15a on the clock and say the clock says it is time to wake up? And also that his little mind does not work the same way for going to bed at night so 9p is the new 8p which getting him in bed at 8p was hard enough to accomplish as it is without Daylight saving time change. In a word, this time change stuff is CRAP-tastic. Bah humbug to dark drives to work and exhaustion. And while I sit here and bitch about it - just so you know I know, this will only last a few days and then it will all re-adjust but I can still bitch about it all, kay?

The weekend was, ah, interesting. There was good and bad to it. It snowed! That was fun. Matthew loved it, Kevin loved it, I loved it and we all hoped this was the last time for the season. We made snowballs and wee threw them up in the air.

Matthew and I went to the library early Saturday morning. Which was great! It was super cool to see him interact so well with the other kids in the play room. He played, chatted, shared and helped to clean up. That was nice.

It was leaving part that turned U-G-L-Y. Isn't there some BS about children this age asserting their independence? AND why do the experts say it is SO bad to spank your child? BY NO MEANS, did I or have I ever spanked Matthew just so you know. That was rhetorical, you know just a thought on my part mostly...

Matthew seriously threw a fit when I would not let him walk up the same side of the stairs as he came down thus getting in the way of numerous annoyed library patrons. He screamed bloody murder over the fact that I just walked away from him so he had to make his way up the stairs on his own.

Then there was the parking lot. Yeah I half dragged, half carried my child into the lot, again with angry LOUD protests. SO I just decided that he knew better and let him go. He took my hand and went to the car where he pulled the stiff as a board, screaming at the top of his lungs thing because 'NO I DO NOT WANT TO GET IN THE CAR....' SO I put him the car and shut the door and got in the car myself. By this time a car is waiting in the very small lot. To this Matthew ear splittingly told me that he 'NEEDED TO BE STRAPPED IN MOMMY NOOOOOOWW.' Now again please understand I would NEVER under any circumstances drive away with my child unbuckled but I knew no other way to make my point to him. This adventure is a good example of an ongoing battle in our home as of late.

Matthew knows best and he will not listen to either Kevin or myself. My patience level has been terribly low and I have found that what is best for both of us is letting him work it out in his mind that what he doing is wrong or else I feel my blood pressure pushing through the roof and I want to fling myself on the ground right next my three year old and sob just as uncontrollably as he is. It sucks.

Eventually, I got out, strapped him and we drove off. We talked about it and both apologized. Things did not get better until after a 2 hour nap. Then it was like the evil kid went way and good kid was back.

Sunday? Same verse, worse then the first if that is possible but this time it was Kevin dealing with it and not me.

He also tried to fling himself in front of cars twice more in various parking lots across the city. I am rethinking leash time for Matthew because it scared the bejebus out of both Kevin and I every single dang time. I did spend a lot of money this weekend to off set the stressful toddler weekend so that great.

Oh and my darlin' blissfully ignorant husband said "Honey, it is terrible twos, trusting threes so we only have to deal with this behavior for another 41 days..." To which I laughed manically until I could not breath.

I think mostly Matthew's behavior has to do with testing us and our follow through on treats like we will take way your blankie, you will have a time out or no books before bed time. And also because he wants to see how far he can push us. But if I have to say like a parrot to my son one more time "how do we ask for that nicely?" I may pull all the hair out of my head. At least I am not the only one of us feeling this way. Kevin is just as much at a lose as I am.

We also think that Matthew is sick and tired of being a shut in. He wants to play. OUTSIDE. In the sunshine, in his sandbox, with his bike, etc. He needs to run and play and he is tired of being inside. Which at first for all of us was dandy and we had lots to do but now we are just bored with what we have to do. SO fa lalalala SPRING where are you?

Where was I with this post... oh the good. I spent a lot of money, that was fun. We went out to eat and Matthew was charming to the point I think the nice young man who waited on us was like 'HEY kids are not THAT bad.' HA FOOLED YA! Kevin and I watched TWO movies - The Departed and Transformers. Okay seriously Transformers was actually pretty good.

My most favorite thing of all is that Matthew is way into puzzles. We have two now. One is Winnie the Pooh. A 24 piece puzzle for ages 3 and up. He loves it and does it 10 times a day. SO I bought him a Cinderella puzzle too. Seriously I wish I could have a camera in hand because if you all could have seen his little face light up bigger then any present he has ever EVER received when Kevin took that thing out of the bag well it was worth the $3.99 and doing the puzzle three times in one night!

I bought some maternity clothes online on Friday and the clothes from Motherhood Maternity arrived finally. Have you bought pants from there lately? They have the best new panels in their pants!! Only one thing did not fit at all and I will need to return that. The Gap stuff is en route.

We also went to Sam's Club. With a list. And bought twice as much stuff as planned. I did get two cute outfits for Pancake. A Carter's sleeper that is all pinky flowers with flowers on the feet (!!!) and a Carter's pink hoodie outfit with flowery pants. $4.81 each! Weee.

Then I went to Target because Matthew is outgrowing his winter clothes at an astounding rate. I bought new underwear about two weeks ago because he told me his old ones were uncomfortable. 4T undies!!! ACK. This week I bought clearance long pants that were 4T. He has been wearing 4T shirts for some time but I was unprepared for the LENGTH on 4T pants. It seems so wrong... My hands are itching to buy girl clothes too but I am going to wait for clearance sales to buy stuff. However I did buy a cute jumper for Pancake from Gap.com along with my maternity stuff. Sadly the only reason I bought this rather plain jumper was for the ruffles on the butt because my goodness RUFFLES on the butt!?!?! Okay and it was on sale... All they had for boys when Matthew was a wee tot was a bear peeking up from his rump but RUFFLES, people.

Ah, see when I am sleepy I ramble. Sorry. OH and Pancake, kicking up a storm right now so I guess she is saying hi and happy Monday to all!

Baby Pancake Revealed (sort of)!

Okay despite what some of you know I wanted before I ever became pregnant (a girl) I actually never really told anyone that I simply got over that. I actually thought a lot about girl babies vs. boy babies and I kept thinking 'well I know what to expect from a boy and we have all the clothes...' which in retrospect seems kind of lame but whatever. Basically at the end of the day, I thought it would be just fine with me if it was a boy or a girl - I had no more strong feelings either way.

Well, and there is that 50/50 chance thing - I mean one way or another I was going to have a baby of some kind whether it be boy or girl, right???
We had our ultrasound appointment this morning at 8:30a which I did not think was going to happen since all three of us are pretty sick but we dragged ourselves there like I was going to miss or reschedule this appt! The appointment went well. The baby looks great and we are sticking to the baby will be coming some time during the early part of August as a due "time" for the baby.

Matthew was a little cranky as he was up coughing all night and did not sleep well. We went to the pediatrician's office right after the ultrasound and the nurse practitioner said he has Croup. Poor little guy. So that will need to run its course but in the mean time we are just trying to stay as comfortable as possible. I guess I am the least sick of the sicko's so I am playing nursemaid which has included quiet time in front of the TV and baking peanut butter cookies. Oh and NO work so I am not exactly complaining here ;)

Any who, on to the big ANNOUNCEMENT portion of this e-mail, Matthew is going to be a big brother to a wee baby GIRL! We are very very excited, we feel blessed to know the baby is healthy & growing you know the way a baby ought to and did not appear to be sucking her thumb the whole time like her little brother did during his ultrasound (though she did have the hiccups just like Matthew - I just watched his ultrasound last night so this I know for sure!) Baby Pancake actually never revealed her face to us so we have a very blurry slight side view of her but most of the ultrasound pics were terrible SO... no pics for YOU.
It sort of feels a little like cheating knowing the sex of the baby (we did not find out with Matthew) but it is also such a huge relief to decide how to move forward with everything from decorating the room to figuring out what to name Princess Pancake (the ultrasonographer came up with that one!)

Matthew's reaction: " I want a baby brothhhhhhher." He did not cry - he just looked perplexed and seemed to think the nice lady with the sticky wand was whacked. I also think he feels terrible from the whole Croup thing. Either way, we have five months for him to get used to the idea that he gets to be the protective big brother to a little sister. And as Liz (the midwife) told Matthew: Look at this way you may not need to share your toys as much with a little sister (HA)!

Ah and here is a cutie photo of the proud big brother just for fun:

Is she named after the great Harper Lee?

Time will only tell (and a few questions about the where the name came from of course!)

Remember back a few weeks ago, I mentioned these boys being born to folks? Well - finally a little girl! My friend, Annie, gave birth this morning - October 18th at 6:42 ish (couldn't understand the message 100% so it's a relative guess!) to a little girl named Harper Kathleen. YEAH for them!!!!! Okay least we not forget that I am border line obsessed with having a girl so I am EXCITED excited for them about this... I can live vicariously!!

Alexandra has a baby sister whom I am sure she will adore and cherish and share all of her worldly possessions with, right. RIGHT?! Two words: BIGGER BATHROOM!

Oh and I was SO not a believer in this rain storm thing but Annie said her water broke at 11p last night which is about the time the rains started here and the storms raged through the night & into the morning!

We are going to see the little one this afternoon which I am very excited about!!!
