Making coffee out of water from the vase

Kevin and I finally had the chance to see David Sedaris last evening, thanks in HUGE part to our friend, Kelly, who came at a moment's notice to look after Matthew for two hours last evening. Kevin was SO bummed when I bumbled the babysitter thang and, Katie, the babysitter did not show up at 7p last evening as she and I discussed in part because I forgot to remind her or send directions and well she just decided not to respond to our frantic calls or e-mails yesterday so yeah not going with her as a babysitter again even with my bumbling that is not a good sign! I digress... BTW, we OWE you Kelly so make sure you take us up whenever on the owing thing and THANK YOU for the millionth time.

You see, Kevin paid $42 bucks per ticket to see this guy not once BUT twice. We had tickets to see Mr. Sedaris in 2005, April 2005. About 60 seconds after Matthew was born on like April 20th (Matthew was born on the 19th.) So yeah there you go...

All I can say is that the wait was worth it. David is hysterical. He basically read several things that he wrote but were not fit for air, a selection from his new book and parts of his diary. We laughed so hard our bellies hurt. And we both agreed we ought to add some his books to our reading list because he is about the funniest man out there and really because he is self deprecating and somewhat cynical and well those are character traits I can totally jive with. Plus his title of humorist, allows him to say things like "how gay is that" about his partner, Hugh, out picking wild flowers in the field by their French home - he was reflecting on this as he threw the flowers out the window to use the water to make coffee (you see the water goes out frequently in these French provincial locales due to work projects...)

So if you are looking for a witty humorist with bite, David is your man. If he visits your town or city, go see him or check his book out from the library/buy his newest work on amazon or listen to him on NPR's this American Life hosted by Ira Glass. We plan to buy or check out a book or two and we will definitely see him next time he comes to town barring a baby being born of course!

You can also view Amy Sedaris' web site, she is a piece of work as well! Must run in the family.

Oh, I am so jealous. I like his books but I bet he would be GREAT in person.

Did he tell the Rooster story? My stomach aches just from reading about you going! One recommendation - get his books on tape/CD - there's nothing better than hearing him read his own stuff, as you know! I got Matias his entire collection for Christmas on tape (he doesn't have a cd player in his car) & let me tell you it was a huge hit! Did you get to meet him? He did a meet & greet the last time I saw him. Love that family.

He was doing a book signing afterward but 1st the line was HUGE and 2nd as I eluded to Kelly was looking after Matthew and we did not want to keep her too long however I will keep that books on tape/CD in mind as a gift idea - always looking for something to give Kevin!

He's an amazing dude! Even if I was reading his stuff I would probably read it the way he talked because that is sort of weird thing that I do... that is why I try to read books before seeing the movie because than I use those pictures in place of what the writer maybe intended them to be... it drives me batty!

Oh and not he did not tell the rooster story - I got the sense that he partially doing this tour to promote his new book so he read from that and he also did some material since he has been here the last two years which we missed due to the aforementioned baby thang!

Never thought of it that way Kelly! Hmm, Matthew slept like a log and did not wake up until I went into wake him up so can you come over EVERY night!?!?
He also said 'Kelly go home' 1st thing out of his mouth this AM! It was pretty funny actually - he had a big grin to see us but it was like he was mulling it over about you as well!
