Motor City Here I Come!

So it is Friday at long long last! Hip hip hooray! I am SO not working when I ought to be considering I am taking off half a day to go car hunting but whatever. I am excited to test drive the Honda CRV but we will likely end up back at Toyota. We seem to be a Toyota family but we shall see!

I must also prepare for my 29 hour trip to Detroit (specifically Royal Oak!) I am going to a baby shower for my friend, Jen! I love a good shower - okay some of that has to do with the food but also to see all of the cute things people get for their babies!!!

I do need to pack a little suitcase. I am still some how hoping I can get around checking anything onto the plane and just carry on my stuff but the gifts I have for the future little baby boy are likely not going to allow that and what with all the talk of airport security, I am not going to take a chance. My concerns arise from the time we were taking a flight somewhere last year and, not thinking, I bought some play dough for Matthew as a surprise toy for the plane and they took a brand new $5 three-pack of play dough and tossed it in the TRASH... Flipping unbelievable! I was like 'can you donate it?' The stinkin' airport security dude told us 'they COULD NOT TAKE THAT CHANCE...' Yeah watch out for those 2 year old mother totting terrorists...

Yet this past week it was widely reported that liquid explosives made it onto flights past airport security. My thoughts on this: they are trained to look for the obvious - my son's play dough (which the security dude readily admitted was used in their training procedures...) but not for things that are well hidden and can easily get past security... SO I am sure the package of baby products will certain send an alarm up and would likely end up in the trash...

****

Usually I would just drive to Detroit as it is only six hours and what is that, nothing really, right (especially after spending eight years in the Upper Peninsula of MI where getting to any is an 8 hour drive minimum) BUT the thought of driving 12 hours in one weekend made both Kevin and I a little queasy plus the whole having only one real working car that really needs an oil change made it even more onerous.

This is also my FIRST time ever to spend the night away from Matthew since he was born! I am nervous and hopeful that I only shed a small amount of tears which will likely occur around 30 thousand feet while I am stuck at a window seat (the only isle seats available were at the back of the plane...) next to some grouchy old dude who is wondering why in the world the tired looking lady next to him is sobbing silently into her palm! I know we will all survive but still he's ma baby and I *sob* am sad none the less...

Survival may include several incidents of wetting Matthew's pants as it seems Matthew only wants me to help him go to the bathroom. I am sure Kevin will be fine and it is ONLY 29 hours after all - what could happen in 29 hours, right. RIGHT?!?!?

I am hoping that no blood will be shed. Kevin is planning to take Matthew skating at the ice rink... hopefully this works out because last year Matthew shrieked and sobbed the entire time we were at the rink. In fact, the only time he did not cry was when we finally left sooo... it will be interesting to hear the report from Kevin on Sunday evening. And again with no real good movement from one topic to the next - What does everyone else have planned for the impending weekend?!

Y'all have a lovely weekend!

Have a great time in Motown! I'm sure the boys will be just fine while you're gone.

My son isn't much for the ice skating either. He doesn't cry, he just doesn't try. Maybe this year will be different.

Have a great time! I just spent my first night away from AD in October, and it wasn't bad at all! Of course, I slept with her stuffed giraffe, but you know.

Enjoy yourself! Don't miss him too much that you ruin your weekend - it's *very* tempting but don't do it!

Have fun at the shower :)
